What is Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is characterized by immunologic reactions to antigens of Aspergillus fumigatus that are present in the bronchial tree and result in pulmonary infiltrates and proximal bronchiectasis. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis was first described in England in 1952 in patients with asthma who had recurrent episodes of fever, roentgenographic infiltrates, peripheral blood and sputum eosinophilia, and sputum production containing A. fumigatus hyphae.
