Leuconychia Information - Causes, Sign & Symptom, Cure, Treatment of Leuconychia

What is Leuconychia ?

Leuconychia or "white nail" is an abnormal whiteness of the nails, either in total, partial (spot) or striate (streaks) forms. It may be caused by systemic diseases such as hypoalbuminemia or liver abnormality. It may be congenital or acquired. This condition may be hereditary and no treatment is required as the spots will grow out with the nail plate.

Leuconychia is not unique to liver but can also occur with renal failure, fungal infection, lymphoma or can be congenital. Leuconychia may occur spontaneously or after minor trauma. Leuconychia is the most common nails discoloration, may be congenital or acquired.
